My Links
Some of my personal links
- My Favorite Poetry is a collection of poetry that has touched me in some way.
- My Account of President Clinton's visit (a.k.a. How I Met the President of the United States) is self-explanatory.
Some of my friends online
My friend Peter has two websites - www.fas-ag.de and the German CPA Society
Some of my former co-workers have gotten together and founded Ex-Trali. The page is intended to keep us in touch, and we even have our own mail distribution list.
- Robin Stocks & Carol Gehrke are the proud owners of Words-Worth.de
- Alistair is one of my former co-workers. We tested software together. He now lives in Kitchener, Ottawa (that's in Canada).
- Mark is still working on his page
- Doug Satre and Kathryn LaPointe were the spiritual leaders at the American Protestant Church. They now live in California.
RaMa from GermNews has two sites: his company and his personal site.
My GermNews team member Wolfram's site is still somewhat minimalistic, but he's working on it
Albrecht's personal site will be coming soon
Mike Seymour, a fellow translator in Bonn, has a quirky, yet fun and interesting site. I love his icons to select a language.
tops.net - check out Surfer's Home. I know a lot of these people.
With age comes wisdom, marriage, offspring, etc. My friends are all settling down, buying houses, and having kids. My collection of baby photos is starting to become rather large, so I have decided to keep them on the Web.
Here are some links to some of my anti-spam Websites:
Junkbusters - a great source of information on how to avoid and deal with spam. The site is available in a variety of languages.

An anti-spam abuse site - you can download SpamHater here.
This is a great list of logical ways to fight spam.
One guy's fight against spam and mass mailing fraud. If you hate spammers, you are going to LOVE this site!! He is hilarious.
Here are some links to some of my favorite Web-related and Computer Websites:
I got a lot of my ideas for the new updated site from www.elated.com.
The Web Developer's Virtual Library and webdeveloper.com are big helps when you are designing your Website
Windy's Design has some good graphics
I prefer Netscape to the Internet Explorer
I use Gravity for reading the Newsgroups
The latest version of Eudora is simply wonderful - and practically assured to be virus-free. I changed from Outlook after the Love Bug bit me. Eudora's latest program (Build 4.03) is just great. Andrew Starr has a really good unofficial Eudora site with an FAQ, tips & tricks, etc.
www.eff.org advocates free speech on the Internet. Sure, the CDA was recently found unconstitutional, but there are still factions calling for more government control of the Web. And - the German government is trying to crack down on Web sites as you read this.
Kidon Media-Link is a Netherlands-based site with links to newspapers around the world. You can search by location and language. It's not pretty, but it's functional and thorough.
Anicursor.com - one of the largest collections of animated cursors on the Web. And be sure to check out the Dierck-Cam!!
Be sure to check this one out: http://www.cdsusa.com/
Here are some other assorted Websites
that I like:
Radio Locator is a simple, no-frills site with an excellent database of links to more than 10,000 radio stations - although I can't guarantee it will be around for long once the new law on Internet radio royalties goes into effect.
EMODE is a narcissist's delight - this site is all about you. Personality tests. IQ tests. Determine the color of your aura or find out if you're millionaire material. It'll make you neurotic but, hey, it's fun.
Mapquest and Rand McNally get me wherever I need to go - courtesy of door-to-door instructions.
Drew's Script-O-Rama: Free Movie Scripts For Everybody!
Recently voted "Most Addictive Site" by Time magazine, you can design your own cartoon superheroes at Heromachine. Choose a basic body type, then dress, airm and color your creation. Incredibly juvenile and riveting for eight-year-olds and people with great imaginations.
The news is almost never funny. The Onion, however, is. It's the best satire of current events money can buy - or not since it doesn't cost anything to visit The Onion.
Information on the Web is like an iceberg - most of it lies beneath the surface. Moreover's search engine does a thorough and swift job of ferreting out the top stories on the world's news, research and business sites.
The online auction E-Bay.com. I have already ordered Trivial Pursuit and a beanie baby.
Calculate the distance between any two points on Earth and plot the locations on a map, courtesy of Xerox and indo.com
How stuff works explains everything - from the serious (how jet engines work) to the silly (does drinking ice water burn calories?)
You can click for a cause at the Hunger Site. One click and a corporate sponsor will donate a cup of food to someone in one of more than 74 impoverished countries. There are also links to other charities fighting everything from AIDS to breast cancer.
Great books online: unlimited and free access to nearly all the classics. Forget about pretending you lost your copy of King Lear. It's all here. You'll just have to search for it.
Read the original story of Hamlet - it's weird! - and find a Japanese Cinderella from this exhaustive compendium of legends and myths.
The ultimate bible study: search passages and keywords from nearly a dozen versions of the Bible. Click on options to show footnotes or cross-reference other editions.
Want to play Scrabble and can't find anyone to play with? Jonathan's Web Scrabble is a free site where up to five people can play long-distance (and long) games of Scrabble.
Looking for videos in English (Pal which German video recorders can run or NTSC which is the American standard )? Check out these sites.
My site wouldn't be complete without a link to the Milka site; they make the best chocolate in Germany.
Music Central is one of the best music sites on the Web. (And the only Microsoft site I recommend to friends.) I come here first when I want to find something out about a performer or album.
A library of various games
Disinformation is a collection of slightly off-center sites with a search engine and tons of interesting stuff.
Also here are some links to my favorite German Websites:
Das Kinoprogramm in Bonn (also in German - up-to-date listing of movies in Bonn with links to Cologne's theaters too. It has a link to my page!!).
Ralf Hastedt's I.M.S. - where I order my Buffy the Vampire Slayer videos. They are dependable and I really like the fact that I can order the English videos in Germany.
Das Internet-Magazin in Bonn has an comprehensive list of Bonn events - updated daily!
Die Annonce
D-Info on-line: German database of address and phone numbers.
A list of practical links put together by the Universität Köln (dictionaries, transportation, etc.)
Want to book a train ticket? You can do it here at the Deutsche Bahn site.
VRS planner & timetable (Streckenplan)
Kangarüh Mitfahrgelegenheit - a chance to find a ride within Germany with a private car. Much cheaper than trains and planes, but the choice isn't that extensive yet.
